Hi, I am Ashlie and Canine Brain Games stems from a lifelong passion for understanding animal and human behavior. With my master's degree in psychology specializing in behavior analysis, I have spent the last 10 years working in the clinical mental health field.
I have always understood the connection between humans and dogs and knew dogs would always be part of my future. My master’s dissertation focused on the connection between dogs and children on the spectrum.
Over the past 20 years, I have worked with children and dogs in some capacity. From teaching children to fostering and rehabilitating dogs, I always could connect with and understand kids and dogs.
Having taken on “quirky” dogs for over 20 years, I initially focused on obedience training and even aversive methods, particularly when working with my rescued American Staffordshire Terrier, Freya, who struggled with animal aggression and impulsivity.
This led me to believe that dogs needed to be told what to do all the time. Structure, structure, and more structure! However, my perspective shifted when I began fostering and rehabilitating dogs, discovering that enrichment was the key to addressing their instinctual needs. I quickly learned that addressing those needs in a fun and safe way actually reduced other maladaptive behaviors!
This began to transfer over into how dogs are living in our world, meeting our needs while we are telling them not to sniff, dig, chew, or shred... All of these things are natural for them and make them special.
As a Licensed Pet Dog Ambassador Trainer through the Pet Professional Guild and holding a Canine Enrichment Certification from DogNostics, I continue to expand my knowledge of how to work effectively with dogs and their guardians. While I take on behavior consultations on a case-by-case basis, my focus remains on differentiating Canine Brain Games from other dog subscription box services by infusing each box with educational insights and scientifically backed games.
